ABOUT THE BOOK
Ruby and the Off-Road Rally is a picture book for kids ages 4-8 that is all about exploring and pushing your limits.
Ruby is a jeep who is eager to show her grit on the open road, but she faces hot desert sands, unexpected twists, and daunting obstacles. Fortunately, Ruby has the support of her calm and trusted navigator, Scout, to keep her on the right path.
Ruby and Scout navigate the desert with a compass and map, and together, they make decisions under pressure during the rally. They must deal with the idea of failure, make split-second decisions, and learn what it means to be a true competitor.
In May 2024, we went off-roading in the Mojave Desert with the Rebelle Rally experts who taught us how to navigate off-road with our topographic maps and compasses -- NO GPS!
We learned very quickly that off-roading is a fun adventure and knew that kids everywhere would love a character who finds herself in tricky situations and needs to use her wits and tools to get out of trouble and back on track.
A little about us...
Lisa Ferland is an award-winning children's book author, mom of two kiddos, and nature lover living in Sweden.
Julie Dwyer is a retired elementary school teacher who specialized in teaching STEM to kids ages 8-10.
We are launching the book on BackerKit because the platform allows us to take pre-orders and allow our backers to VOTE on various aspects of the book.
We need YOUR HELP to decide on key characteristics, like when Ruby's arch nemesis gets stuck during the race, does Ruby help her out of the sand, calm down from overheating, or stay with her until help arrives?
We want the story to be co-written by the backers, and in order to do that, we need to find young readers who are interested in helping us create this book!
